I'm cruising calendars for Christmas gifts. They are big bang gifts, as in people love them, and they are not hard to do at all! Check out this one by Beth Rimmer at Digitals. It fits right on the Ethan chipboard album by Cosmo Cricket, also available there. Easy and convenient!



CottageArts.net has a delicious selection of calendars in all sizes from CD cases to 11x17 that you can print out and put in an acrylic frame! I'm working on one of those right now and plan to make this terrific CD calendar that I'm showing you here!

OMG! They just said that if you live in a 1 or 2 story house in Galveston, you need to leave or you will die. So my dh put this in perspective for me at our beach house, which is up on stilts, that the water would be up to his neck on the 1st floor at the expected levels. The sea is such a powerful force, that at that depth and ferocity, it would level what was in its path. How scary! I hope everyone listens and evacuates.

DD is still sick. The strep has really wiped her out. I feel so bad for her. I have used all my motherly knowledge to keep her comfortable.

Ds has worked every day this week except Sunday and Tuesday. I'm so stinkin' proud of him I could bust! He hasn't complained one time, well except for trying to keep his check, but his fight was short and he showed up with his insurance $$ for me today. What a good boy!

And finally, our news told us there was a shortage of gas and that in some parts of the country, due to Ike, gas had already reached over $5.00. Locally one of our gas stations was limiting customers to 10 gallons each. Now you know with them saying that, it caused a mass panic (in our small town). Walmart was backed up all in its parking lot with people lined up to get gas at each of its pumps. The station at the end of our neighborhood had an accident due to cars lined up in the road waiting to pull off to get gas. Mind, you we decided to fill up since the national news said that the floating oil rigs and such might get damage causing a shortage like after Katrina. OMG! Now, I'm trying to restrict my teenage drivers to ONLY drive where they must and NO hauling anyone anywhere.

Well, aside from cheer camp I haven't done too much with cheerleading since we got back. Mainly because they are just learning the cheers and band dances, which all the returners already know. It's just the newbies that have to learn them really. But tonight we are off to an event at our local civic center put on by the school foundation here. The girls are performing a lil sumpin. So I will have pics of that. And I'm in my official capacity as Asst. Coach. I'm sure it will be fun!

I'm about to go and feed my son, who assures me he is starving to death. Do teen boys ever get full? And then it's a nice run around the neighborhood. So I hope that dd has not run the battery dead on my ipod so I have some good tunes to keep me occupied. And I'm getting my hair colored today. HOORAY! No gray! LOL!

I made a slideshow since it has been a while since I blogged. I don't think I'm much of a summer blogger. There's just so much more I'd rather be doing outside. I don't like winter so I blog more in winter cuz I'm inside where it is warm! LOL!

Becky Fleck has sent me a sketch for the September issue of Page Maps. I am so excited to be asked to contribute to her new digital section. That just completely was awesome!

I went to Hard Rock Park yesterday with 5 teenagers. I think they managed to have a good time. I do believe the highlights of their day included (1) my cussing on a ride because I had lost my ever lovin' mind from fright and (2) my screaming, "Close your eyes if you can't make it through!" several times during a vertigo experience brought on by a drug induced spinning tunnel in the Moody Blues Nights in White Satin ride. Apparently I'm quite funny when I don't realize what I am doing brought on my extreme sensory experiences! LOL!

I rode some dag gum swings. Let me tell you about that. That scared the bejesus out of me. I do not like the feeling of falling. Never have. One reason I don't like airplanes cuz turbulence feels like free falling. So I hop on these swings and off it goes, scaring the wee-wee out of me because I am suspended in mid-air on a twirly-swirly ride where I am experiencing that falling sensation and the only thing I have to hang on to is the two chains currently in a death grip. If I even move one inch, the swing starts to turn, which sends another shock of fear through me, causing a more death defying grip. I realize I can't scream, "Stop this ride! Get me off of here! NOW!" I mean all the others enjoying the ride, don't want to endure my panic attack. So I have to endure, meanwhile my vertigo is aggravated and a wave of nausea is welling up. So on top of falling, I might vomit on anyone below me on this wildly spinning ride. That was it for me for the day. I then went to the Beach Blanket Bingo show. My speed! LOL!

Okay, I have always wanted to do one of these kind of cartoon lo's, for lack of a better description. When I saw this kit by Julie Meade over at Cottage ARts, I had to have it. It just so happens that I found these photos of my dd from about 4 years ago that were just perfect to be scrapped with it.

I can't remember if I shared this pic of ds that I took. I need to edit it, but I just love it. I believe it will be his Christmas card pic! And the one he can give his friends when they are passing out senior photos! I just love it when he cooperates with me.

His senior proofs came, but the tuxedo yearbook pics didn't come out. Photographer flubbed up so he has to redo those, but the casual looks were great. Now dh and I have to pick which one to order. TOUGH choice! LOL! I'm only going to get an 11x17 as otherwise it is way too expensive!

Dd came home from Hilton Head today. I'm glad. I missed her. We celebrated Father's Day after she got home and ds got off work. I made a Beef Wellington, Risotto and cherry cobbler for dessert. Appetizers were potatoe skins with blue cheese. Whew! Am I full. Anyway, can you tell I've been watching Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsay.

I would like to know WTF is English mustard? That's what you are supposed to rub all over the beef tenderloin before you cook it in the shell. They don't sell it where I live that is for sure! Not a shocker, but never heard of it! BTW, beef wellington is delish. I used portabello mushrooms for the mushroom part. Yummo!

I have managed to master risotto. And it is really, really good. You just can't be in a hurry to make it.

And cherry cobbler. A whole stick of butter. Need I say more.

I do love cooking when I have time and watching Hell's Kitchen got me curious about risotto and beef wellington. Now both are added to my culinary skills.

So all that being said, I do believe dh had a nice father's day. He got two trees for our landscaping adventure: a pansy tree and a dogwood tree. Plus we got him a pair of Columbia shorts. I also took him for my "short" route of walking since he is wanting to lose some weight. I told him I would take him the long route another day. I think he thought the short one was the long one!

Frankly, that summer is right behind for me as my lo says. Spring is cold and damp here and annoyingly long. I'm all about SUMMER!!! She and Sherriejd are coming out with a new collab kit on Tuesday, and if you saw their last one, you know it is a big deal! We get it today. It's not ready quite yet.

I have to work every single day this weekend. OMG! What we mother's do to have flexibility for our children but provide some extra income...however, I do have 3 days off next week, which will mainly involve replanting everything I had to have ripped out since it was overgrown after 17 years in our yard...and affecting the water pipes...still waiting on my check from the city, although they did forward my stuff to the Risk Management folks who sent it right off to their third party handler with whom I spoke yesterday.

Meanwhile in order to be sure I am aware that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, the city's paperwork arrived which instructed me to mail (1) two estimates...uh, no, work is already done... and (2) send it to the Risk Management office who would then forward it to their third party handler...didn't they already do that? OMG, it really makes you wonder what the hell they do over their all day, doesn't it. Bumblers is what I'm thinking...Doesn't give you alot of confidence in the local government.

And when I spoke to the third party, upon receiving their letter saying they had tried to contact me...NOT...we have an answering machine, caller ID and cell phones...no message...no caller ID...I called them anyway, and they want me to explain the whole story, so I do, but then they start asking questions trying to make me say something. I tell them I don't discuss the plumbing since I am not an expert, but they can call the plumbers and, "I'll read you what they did. I have their e-mail right here."

"Oh, no. That's OK. I have a copy of that."

What do they think I am going to say? I'm not an idiot. Anyway, I wasn't really that aggravated because the city had sent everything off already cuz they know they are culpable even though their letter says they admit no guilt or responsibility. UMMMMmmm...ok.

Anyway, it should take about a week for them to get back to me. They have to get the city's paperwork. Which will say they came out, which they didn't. Which will include a photo of the dirt pile in my yard as evidence in the plumbing issue. Which will go against my photos of broken end cap, completely 100% clogged pipe and all photos taken in the hole where the plumbing is...now whose case is better. OH MINE!

One thing about me, I do not like to be unprepared. When I was working, I had to be 100% prepared for anything I did so I could answer any and all questions. It was just me. Kinda freaky like that. I don't like to be surprised with something I don't know about my job! LOL!

And speaking of ultra dorky and jobs. So I'm working this retail gig til the kiddies graduate and they are having some sort of contest while they educate the sups in each dept. They learn a lesson every week, give us the answers from the quiz they take, and last night the store manager gathers us all up and quizzes us. Now, frankly, I don't give a rat's behind about knowing the other departments because I don't care how they hang their shirts. I don't do it. I can't leave the jewelry department, even to go to the bathroom without at least a dept. supervisor there to cover so I don't get anywhere else all shift! Anyhoooooo, if you answer your question right, your dept. supervisor gets a point. Mind you. I'm standing behind the store manager because they have to have the meeting in jewelry because I'm still open. I can see all the answers. LOLOLOLOLOL! I got my question right, but it was about jewelry so duh! And so my sup got a point and lo and behold, I got a little dorky pin to put on my name badge like I'd done something spectacular at work. I'm sorry, but I find all that a little gay.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Memorial Day. We do not celebrate it where I live as they celebrate Confederate Memorial Day. So everyone is open except Federal businesses! LOL! Doesn't that kill ya! What can I say about a state who is proud of "First to Secede," and "the South shall rise again!" King cotton and all that! Heritage not hate. I'm just quoting, btw, so don't get panties in a wad, not expressing my opinion. Now let me go have a mint julep under my magnolia tree, I'm gettin the vapors!

I love magnolia trees. I always take a pic of my blossoms. I have 3 trees in my back yard. What a glorious bloom. They are so big and white and pretty! They just remind me of a gentile life and summer.

I wish I had more sage things to say today. But I just got off work, and I'm tired! We were busy. My kiddies are out and about (yes, I know exactly where they are), so the house is quiet and I'm waiting on a nice apple streudel to finish cooking for a lil' snack.

A bit of good news in that it appears the city is going to reimburse us for our plumbing disaster. Now mind you, I don't know how long it will take to actually get the money out of them. We have to fill out a form. OMG! CAn you believe it, but that's the government, even if it is local! But I'll do it to get that big chunk o' change. I'm very ahppy about it anyway!

I need the big chunk o change because I have to have 13 bushes and 3 trees taken out. Our house is about 17 years old and the original planting are overgrown to the point they were affecting the sewer lines. Now that we know where they are, we are going to either plant nothing or shallow rooted plants in those areas so that nothing interferes with them. However, to have the roots dug out, which of the bushes, go about 2 feet straight down and 3 ft each out to the sides...and the trees, forget it...the roots are way out and down! We have to pay almost as much as we will get back from the city with a bit of money left over for new plantings.

Family was all tired from the weekend and grouchy this morning resulting in lots of yelling and kids nearly being late to school. What a way to start the day! Bleh.

We had some friends over for dinner last night and I made bbq chicken, asparagus marinated in Italian dressing, zuchini and mushrooms, and pineapple skewers...all on the grill. It was sooooooooooo good!

My new card for the Faith Sisters Weekly Scripture challenge. I'm still not caught up, but I'm still doing them, which is the important part. I love reading the different verses and being led to the one that inspires me. I can't wait until I have them all done and in a pretty box for sharing.

I do have some secret fans who read my blog and NEVER post a "Hi!" They freaked out one week when they hadn't heard from me via phone or blog. They thought something was wrong. Schweeet of them! But nothing was wrong. Just working and enjoying the warm weather.

And finally, seeing David Cook singing Roberta Flack, OMG! I almost cried. He is so freakin' talented. And Randy is on drugs if he didn't think that was the best SHIT he has ever heard. Take the glue out of your ears. He was awesome. I LOVED HIM and if he doesn't win, the world is deaf! LOL!

I love summer. It is my favorite time of year. I adore the sunshine and hot weather. I'm compelled to be outside which interrupts my scrapping and blogging time! Maybe I'm like alot of people. I don't know. But I do know that I don't scrap as much in the summer because I'd rather be outdoors doing things. Now, I do have a screened porch, and I do scrap out there to enjoy the weather.

Of course, the other thing interrupting my life is that it appears they are not going to hire another person at work, and so I am working 30-35 hours a week. Which I totally do not want to do. That's why I got a part time job, but then in this economy, I don't want to complain. After all, I heard about a local business laying off everyone in sight. So we will see how this all comes out in the wash.

I have done a few lo's here recently, and I'm sharing them today. Finally.

I have a suggestion for you, too. Yesterday, I went to Cottage Arts and spent some time looking around. I mean really looking around and found four kits that I might not have seen my just clicking the "What's New" button. So I'm suggesting that you treat yourself to a really good "look-see" at your favorite digi store. You might have missed something from way back when, and it is fun just to look around and see what all is there.

I didn't get too much done yesterday as I had to go to the skin dr. and get a suspected skin cancer cut off my neck. I just had one cut off my arm about six months ago. They told me not to worry that they come in clusters like that. I'm trying not to think about it.

OMG! 7 days straight of working retail for a supposed part time job...thanks to that girl who quit. Who at this point, I have quit feeling sorry for her and feel some animosity about her stupidity. JK! LOL!

For those of you who have been following my gardening saga, I have a pic to share of my empty pots. This is the before. I got a postcard from our local nursery and am copying their planting as best I can. So once I finish planting (TODAY), I will take a preliminary picture, and then share the postcard. Then I will take a pic once my pots fill in and look glorious, just like the postcard! Okay, blogger is being aggravating and won't let me post my before pic. But I will eventually!

I am not sure what I am doing today aside from the usual exercise, cooking, cleaning, scrapping and gardening. Maybe that is enough. I am going to watch my DVR episodes of Hell's Kitchen and AI. I LOVE NEIL DIAMOND!

Okay, I have another driver in my home. Ds passed his driver's test. He is so excited. And how long do you think it took for the first fight over sharing the car? I'm not even sure they made it out of the school parking lot.

I got a call. It was dd. DS was going to McDonalds. She wanted to go get a book for her class. Intervention! Peace! It all worked out.

Had to explain to dd how excited she was when she got her license. So ds wanted to drive. Ah, the beginning...

And dd made Varsity cheer again this year. She made it last year as a sophomore so it was a pretty good guess she would make it this year, but you never know!

So each kid has something to be happy about, which makes me happy, too!

It took me all night to make that scrapbook page. I just kept working with it and trying to get it how I wanted. Anyway, while I was scrapping, I watched "Hell's Kitchen". That guy is some kind of mean, but I do enjoy the show since he is not yelling at me!

David Cook rocked AI, imo! He's my fav for this year. I know David Archileto (sp) is cute, but I'm a rocker, and I'd buy David Cook's stuff before the cute lil guy!

I love how teachers assign books to be read when (1) there aren't enough copies at the school for all the students in the class (2) there aren't enough books in the library for all the students in the class (3) there aren't enough books in the public library for all the students in the classes (4) the teacher never coordinated with the local bookstore so one doesn't have their books in on time and the other, well, we got the last copy. I might suggest to the teacher that she make sure that the bookstore and her reading are timed appropriately. Otherwise, how do all the students get the material in a timely manner to complete the assignments?

I think I may have the flu, although I'm not sure. I slept for 12 hours last night. I woke up with a scratchy throat. I feel nauseated. Bleh. I don't get sick very often. I can't even tell you the last time I was sick...maybe October? I eat well, excercise and wash my hands alot! That is my key to that I think. Anyway, don't feel bad for me or anything. I think all I can do is scrap today! bwahahahahaha! Yahoo as far as that goes. Guilt free!

Okay, so you know you don't feel that great when even scrapping doesn't interest you. I was going to play and play and post and post and bleh! So I only made the lo above for fun, and I didn't want to scrap anymore!

Faith Sisters Week 12 and Painting

My scripture choice this week for the Faith Sisters Scripture challenge. The word this week was listen. I was originally going to pick another scripture, "Be still and know that I am God", but I ended up being led to this one.

I'm busy painting the bathroom sink cabinet in my kids' bathroom because it had a leak underneath and got all funky. I painted the outside fronts of the cabinets yesterday and the bottom of underneath the sink. Now I have to do the cabinet sides underneath because the fresh paint really shows how badly they need it. I'm also going to put shelf paper down. I had shelf paper down before, and if you ever wonder if it really protects anything, where I had it, the paint looked new. Where I didn't have it, the paint was faded. So there you have it!

I used two papers and the luminosity mode in the layers pallette. Then I used my OptikVerve Glamour filter in b&w to get the effect I wanted on my photo and added it in to my lo using the overlay mode. Art does reflect the mood of the artist, and I think this shows how I was feeling today! Ah the teen years!

A lo of my bff, Mandy, from a recent crop weekend. Poor thing had the worst cold in history, but as with all scrappers, she wasn't missing the crop weekend. She took alot of meds and a nap and made it through like a champ!

OK. I think I was in some sort of scrapping rut or funk or whatever you call it. I just felt my creativity was lacking, lacking, lacking, but tonight I feel like the mojo is on again! I hope it stays that way for a while. I just played and filly-farted around, and I actually like what I did. Which, you know how that is, sometimes you are not too wild about the lo's that you make.

I also bought a new tool today. NOt a scrapping tool so don't get too excited. It's a handy lil' knife sharpener that my husband had at his store. I saw a tool being used on The Today Show that was sharpening tools, and I said I needed one. He said he had one. So I made a trip up there today to get it. I can't wait to use it on my pruning sheers and get a'pruning!

Completed another scripture challenge. I'm a little behind! But that's ok. My goal is just to get them all done as part of my "ME" word this year (Ali Edwards). Doing this scripture challenge is part of my spiritual growth.

As I sit here

ds and dh are busy watching some Nascar race on t.v. DS is a big Jimmie Johnson fan. I like to trick him when he leaves the room and tell him Jimmie wrecked. I always get his goat! LOL! He went to work at 7a this morning and got off around 11:30a or so.

DD is busy im'ing on the computer, texting, and listening to music. I'm surprised her brain doesn't explode sometimes! She's been doing homework for part of the day and went to youth group.

I had a headache just about all day. Couldn't get rid of it. It was getting worse. Took some migraine stuff and OH YEAH! Feelin' fine!

Dh is nodding off during the race. He likes to nap in the evening! LOL!

I spent most of my weekend scrapping when I wasn't at work. Scrapstreet was having a big crop this weekend where you earn tickets. The more tickets you earn, the better your chances of winning the big prize. Frankly, I'm burned out from the 4 lo's I made, which were alot of fun to do. So I am organizing my scrap stash into my designer's folders. That's how I keep everything. And unzipping new kits I need to use, although I am finished all my CT assignments for the month except for two remaining for Scrapstreet's mag! I'm excited.

And this weekend, I'm off to a weekend crop so I probably won't do alot of scrapping this week, just to keep my mojo fresh!

So I'm having a creative dilemma in my scrapbooking right now. At first I got into digi scrapping because I could make realistic scrapbook pages. "Is it live or is it Memorex?" If you remember that commercial from way back when...

But then, there is so much more to digi scrapping where you can make really creative and artistic pages. They don't look like traditional paper scrapping because you couldn't do these things easily with paper.

What's a girl to do?

I've been experimenting with new things, as you know from visiting my blog. I think that is what I will keep doing. Just trying all the different styles out there, but I'm wondering where your thoughts lie on this topic?

Give a teen the keys to the car and you give them power. DD is out in front of the house yelling at ds to hurry up and c'mon because he had to run back into the house twice as he forgot things. He's older, but the one behind the wheel is the master. I don't think she'll like it too much when he gets his license and the shoe is on the other foot!

My dh is so cute. If I work the evening shift, I call him when I leave work, and he has the garage door open for me when I get home! Isn't that sweet! (We've lost our opener.)

The person who hit my car was not at work last night so I didn't say anything. I want to look at their car to be sure. I'm not one to accuse based on supposition. I'd rather double check before I make a stink.

A little something different

This is my new blog blinkie that I will be adding to my siggies. Of course, if you want to visit my blog, you can always add it to your blog links and make it clickable! I used Beth Rimmer's ATC VAlentines kit available at Digitals. I wish I had saved it larger, but it is actually 3 ATC's all together in a row. What's a woman to do with three giggly teenagers and an eager young man, but put on her iPod and scrap. So that's what I did while dd had her friends over after school. Girls can be so loud, and they were all stirred up. Ds had his headphones on in his room. He didn't hear a thing either.

I hope you like my lo. It's a little different for me. I'm always trying to learn new things, and I wanted to try out this style. The color part isn't out of my ordinary, but all the other things going on are. I layered two papers to get the effect I wanted and the color I wanted.

Ds starts his new job Wednesday. That should be interesting in a positive way!

I just want to say regarding my CT's that it is 2/18 and I only have one more obligation to fulfill and I'll be done for the month. Not that it's a burden or anything. I'm just the type person that when I have something to do I like to get it done!

If you have read my blog, you know I have been working with a "coach" at our Y to lose weight. Well, I lost five pounds until I met the Godiva chocolates I got for Valentine's Day. I ate all but two. He said I should have eaten a few and given the rest away. That's INSANE. I say eat them all at once, and then they are gone. He didn't buy that philosophy, but they weren't his favorite either! So I put on 2 lbs., which I still find hard to imagine. I think it is water from PMS. We will see next week. I need to be extra good as that is the last week of my free "coaching".
