Jessica Sprague, Layouts, Cards

I read Jessica Sprague's blog, which I have a a link for on my links area. I like her Photoshop Friday lessons. Although, her latest post had some great quotes that apply to scrapbooking, among other things.

“Look back at your work and it tells you how it is when you hold back or when you embrace. When you are lazy, your art is lazy; when you hold back, it holds back; when you hesitate, it stands there staring, hands in its pockets. But when you commit, it comes on like blazes.” (ART AND FEAR by David Bayles and Ted Orland)

Think about your layouts. Those times you just didn't want to ink that border or use that paint or walnut ink or chalk or extra embellie or piece of paper. You were lazy. And you look at that layout and everytime you think, " I should have added that..."

I know that entire quote. I live it in my scrapbooking. My WOW layouts are the ones that i met head-on, full-tilt, guns blazing with everything I had. I put everything into it I had. My mind was emptied. I'm not saying that it had to be a technique laden, embellish heavy lo. What I'm saying is, when I was done, it was truly finished. I was finished. So if you're not feeling it, leave it. Come back to it. Let it rest. It will get the best part of you if you do that. I truly believe it.

“One of the few things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book, or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better.
(THE WRITING LIFE by Annie Dillard)

Another quote from Jessica's blog. She reads as she travels. She apparently travels alot! But think about saving your stash. You saved that one item, paper, embellie, ink and for what? It becomes outdated or you just plain get sick of looking at it. Don't save. USE! If you bought it, you bought it because you liked it. Use it. What are you waiting for? It's true. I love these quotes. I need to put them in a design and hang them in my scrap room. They speak to my heart. They speak to my mind. My hands know what they are saying. My eyes see it.
